Rhinoplasty Dunblane Scotland (FK15): Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to reshape or reconstruct a person's nose. It can be undertaken for personal reasons, after an injury, due to a birth defect or so as to aid breathing difficulties. The two main types of rhinoplasty surgeries are reconstructive and cosmetic. It is the most common of all facial plastic surgeries in Dunblane, and post surgery it can help improve breathing and create the effect of balancing a facial appearance.
Reconstructive Rhinoplasty Dunblane
The goal with reconstructive surgery is to rectify breathing problems that have arisen as a result of external injury or natural causes. A person who has difficulty in breathing under exercise, or suffers from sleep apnoea, might have an underlying problem such as a nasal obstruction. A doctor's examination is needed to discover the cause, because this can be brought on by a number of factors.
A major contributing factor in many cases is septal deviation, when the midline wall of the nose (the septum) is crooked or pushed to one side. Surgery known as septorhinoplasty can help to realign the septum and address any other underlying issues. Cartilage grafts may be inserted in key internal areas of the nasal passage to strengthen the shape of the nose and septum.
Reconstructive rhinoplasty and septorhinoplasty are usually performed by a qualified surgeon under general anaesthetic, and most patients can look forward to returning home the same day as their surgery. If the procedure isn't too complicated, the surgeon might suggest using a local anaesthetic, but this will be reviewed during your consultation. The operation involves making an incision at the base of the nose to provide access to the inside. In many situations, the bones don't need to be broken; instead, they're reshaped and adjusted to improve airflow and align the septum. At this point, cartilage might be removed or adjusted to make the nose stronger and give it a more balanced shape. To aid recovery, splints or casts may be fitted to keep the nose stable and help reduce any swelling.
The points where the incisions are made at the base of the nose are chosen very carefully to help reduce visible scarring. As a result, many patients find that they don't have any noticeable scars once their wounds heal. Generally, recovery times for reconstructive rhinoplasty are quite comparable for all patients, and they're typically advised to rest for about one to two weeks. This means that any heavy exertion or breathing should be avoided for at least the first week. Applying ice to the affected area can aid in recovery, along with adhering to a specific nasal cleaning plan.
A follow-up visit will be arranged to take off any splints or cast from the nose, and at this stage, you should be ready to return to work and daily routines. It is recommended to avoid contact sports or those with a potential risk of hitting the nose (e.g., ball sports, racquet sports) for six to eight weeks post-operation. After this period, the nose should be healed enough to go back to your usual lifestyle.
Cosmetic Rhinoplasty Dunblane
Undergoing cosmetic rhinoplasty surgery, or a nose job, for personal aesthetic reasons is classified as an elective procedure. This typically means that health insurance will not cover the surgery's costs or any subsequent consultations or related procedures. However, if combined with a reconstructive surgery that is covered under an insurance policy or accessed via the National Health Service through a GP's recommendation, it might be possible to reduce personal expenses.
There are many reasons for wishing to undergo cosmetic rhinoplasty in Dunblane:
- Removal of scars or blemishes.
- Reducing the width of the nasal bones.
- Reduce or widen the size of the nostril.
- Correction of a bulbous nasal tip.
- Removal of humps or protrusions.
- Reshape a curved or twisted nose.
There are many reasons that can lead you to consider cosmetic rhinoplasty, but it's always best to start by discussing any surgical plans with your GP before seeking advice from an expert plastic surgeon in Dunblane. From there, a personalised plan can be developed for you, along with a clear understanding of what to realistically expect from the surgery. Keep in mind, though, that not everyone is a good candidate for cosmetic rhinoplasty. This could be due to factors like individual skin and bone structure, medical history, risks of adverse reactions, or the potential for worsening the condition.
Your surgeon will need to do a physical exam to figure out which areas can be improved. This examination will give them a look at the thickness of your skin, cartilage, and bone, and it might also help predict if there are any breathing changes that could happen post-surgery. You'll be asked questions about your expectations for the procedure and your reasoning for wanting a rhinoplasty. It's totally normal to feel a bit self-conscious during this time; discussing what we see as flaws isn't easy for anyone. Nonetheless, it's essential that the surgeon recognises you've put thought into this and understand the possible risks along with the expected outcomes of the surgery.
As with reconstructive rhinoplasty the surgery will take place either under a general or local anaesthetic. After the procedure you will be moved to a recovery room for observation and to allow you to return to being fully awake and aware. Dependant on your circumstances you may be have an overnight stay before being discharged, or you could be allowed to leave after tests and observations are completed.
What to Expect After Rhinoplasty Surgery
It is normal for bruising to appear around the eyes and while this may look worrying, it will reduce over the recovery period. You will be advised to rest for at least seven days after surgery with your head in a raised position to reduce swelling and bleeding. Due to the nature of the surgery there may be a feeling of congestion and of your nose being blocked. It is essential you do not blow your nose or try and forcibly remove any blockage as you may cause damage to the healing process.
There is likely to be some leakage of blood and mucus, and your surgeon will provide a drip-pad to absorb any fluids draining from your nose. This affixed in place with tape and will need to replaced as directed by the post surgery instructions. You may also be asked to follow extra precautions such as:
- To be mindful when brushing your teeth to avoid bumping and movement of the top lip.
- Avoid running, jogging and other strenuous activities, contact sports in particular.
- Don't wear spectacles or contacts.
- Try not to use extreme facial expressions or laugh.
- Eat a high fibre diet until the end of the recovery period. This may seem a bit peculiar, but the theory is a high fibre diet will avoid constipation and hence avoid any straining and subsequent pressure in the surgery area.
In some cases of rhinoplasty surgery there may be localised swelling that can last up to a year. This is completely normal, but if there are any concerns about the results of surgery and recovery then do not hesitate to contact your surgeon for advice.
If you require further surgery it will not normally be arranged until at least 12 months after any previous rhinoplasty procedures. This is due to the changes the nose can make during this time as it adapts to the initial surgery.

Recovery After Rhinoplasty
A rhinoplasty patient's post-operative recovery experience differs from person to person but common pattern of recovery is for all. Mostly patient come back in normal position within in a week after surgery but its some side effects can last for several weeks or even months and it should not cause discomfort to you. If you feel any discomfort after rhinoplasty surgery you can call the doctor directly through the contact numbers for emergencies provided by them.
After rhinoplasty surgery there is some discomfort you have to face. To overcome the pain your surgeon will provide you with medication to control the pain and the time taken is 5 to 10 days.
A splint will be applied after surgery to keep nose in position and also help in healing. About a week at your post-operative check up the splint will usually be removed by the surgeon. If open rhinoplasty was used or the nasal bones have been broken and reset then there will be some swelling. For the first few days there may be some swelling on your eyes and the doctor may advise that you use a cold compress to reduce the swelling. Mostly swelling and bruising will be not seen after some weeks but some swelling may be seen for several months but it is not noticeable by others. For the nose to come out in its final shape it take 9 to 12 months.
In rhinoplasty surgery nose bleeding is common and you feel congested and this condition can last several weeks. You also feel you have a cold but avoid blowing your nose for around 4 weeks after surgery and this can make worse the healing process. You also feel tenderness on the nose if you are going outside then it is good for you to wear sun block.
Between 1 to 3 weeks after the rhinoplasty surgery one will be fit for their work. You should have to not do any hard work for six weeks. The hard work may effect on the proper healing of your nose and may lead to revision rhinoplasty.
